"Green is the new Black"– being environmentally conscious is not just fashionable but responsible citizenry. Our family has only begun to tap into the possibilities of energy and environmental conservation on a personal and local level.  We are joining this climate pilot project because we want to become better stewards of this planet's precious resources in a
way that makes sense and can be sustained. We want to take more responsibility for how we consume resources and increase our awareness of the impact our collective behavior has on the environment. We want to seek out and integrate solutions into our everyday life to mitigate or reverse those impacts, and then share the knowledge with others! We can not think of a better way to make the point that there is only one world and we all have to take responsibility for it than by partnering with the good people of Kalmar, Sweden to act locally and all the while think globally.

About us
Roy is a staff officer/geospatial analyst with the federal government and a retired United States Air Force Aviation Officer. His work experience has taken him all over the world and he has observed first hand how other countries, communities and cultures interact with their environment – the good, the bad and the ugly. Jane is an analyst with the federal government; her work focuses on process improvement and knowledge sharing.  Roy grew up in a small farming community in the state of Indiana. His mother was from Drammen, Norway and had a great love of the outdoors which she passed on to Roy. Jane grew up in the Great Lakes Region of New York State (the largest fresh water source in the world) and spent summers in the Adirondack Mountains, the southern coast of Maine and at her grandfather's farm where reduce, recycle and reuse was the way of life long before it became a popular concept. She learned at a very young age to look beyond original
purpose, a milk jug can serve a multitude of functions once the milk is gone! Roy and Jane met at work and have called the Washington DC region home ever since.

Spare time
Spare time is a precious resource in itself. Jane uses hers by leading her daughter's Girl Scout Troop, hiking, gardening, cooking, and crafting. Roy loves cycling, gardening, wine culture, and home improvement projects. Both Roy and Jane are very engaged with their daughter's activities which include competitive swimming, Irish dance, ballet, horseback riding and scouts. The family enjoys adventure traveling, camping, cycling, hiking and entertaining family and friends.
