Travel most often has an influence on the environment and this is particularly true of air travel. On the other hand most trips from one place to the other are rather short. You go to work, school, go shopping, or visit friends – a few kilometers and you are there. Without thinking twice you hop in the car unaware of how you are actually impacting the environment. Taking responsibility need neither be expensive nor complicated; in fact it can be both convenient and fun! Here’s a list of tips to help you make your traveling more environmentally- friendly.

Some general advice!

1.
Choose the right fuel
Use transportation fueled by renewable fuel such as biogas, ethanol, RME and hydrogen gas. If you drive on biogas you avoid releasing CO2 into the atmosphere altogether.

2. Travel smart, travel together

If you must take the car make sure that all of the seats are occupied. If you must fly, book a time when you know the plane will be full and choose an airline that has new, efficient planes. In this way you can minimize emissions per passenger.

3 Fly only if you must

Flying comprises a relatively big share of US' climate-affecting emissions. Avoid short flights and take the train!

4. Buy emission rights
Buy emission rights and you will diminish possibilities for companies who take part in emissions trading to emit CO2. In other words you purchase emission rights that are then not used. As both demand and price increase the corporate sector will increasingly seek renewable sources of fuel and more efficient ways of using energy.

5. Carbon offsets

Carbon neutrality begins with reduction. It's a concentrated effort to produce less waste and use more renewable energy. After reduction has reached its limit, or its comfortable threshold, carbon offsets can make up for the rest. Carbon offsets are a form of trade. When you buy an offset, you fund projects that reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The projects might restore forests, update power plants and factories or increase the energy efficiency of buildings and transportation.

6.CO2 calculation
To what extent is CO2 emitted while you are traveling? You can find the answer to this question by using a ‘CO2 calculator’ which can be found on the world wide web.
